about our fair trade certification
We have chosen to be a Fair Trade Tourism-certified establishment, because we feel the importance of social responsibility as well as having an environmental friendly approach. By being the only Fair Trade-certified guest house in Cape Town, we like to think of ourselves as the frontrunners on the market. And as for being social responsible we mean taking care of what we have today so we can leave a better place for our future generations. Below you can read a little of the few things we do.
We provide our staff with equal wages and fair and safe working conditions. This means that all our employees get a fair wage that stands in direct proportion to the job they are doing. We make sure that they have everything they need from uniforms to the right utensils in order to perform their duties. Our staff have annual leave and we also have regular trainings, team buildings, and educational meetings.
We do our best to minimize our impact on the environment by saving electricity and water wherever and whenever we can. We let our laundry dry out in the sun and we use water saving shower heads in our guest bathrooms. Our cleaning solutions are environmental friendly and we do our best to reduce, reuse and recycle as much as possible. The majority of our products that you will have for breakfast are locally sourced and grown.
Being Fair Trade-certified also means supporting your local community. We support The Darling Trust by adding an extra R35 to each guest invoice. This money is later donated to the trust so they can continue with their different community projects, such as educational, outreach, health and sports projects. Another project that lies close to our hearts is The Homestead. This is a non-profit organization with the simple mission of “to get and keep children off the street and to reconstruct their shattered lives”. We also support The Homestead by buying their handmade bags that we give to our guests as a small token of appreciation for choosing Antrim Villa.
What can you do?
Well, first we thank you for choosing us for your stay! By staying here you help us, not only to help others, but also helping us to continue and sustain our social and environmental approach.
We simply ask you to think about turning off light switches, heaters, and fans as you leave your room. If you notice that your tap is leaking or you discover any other leakages of water or electricity, please let us know.
We would also like to invite you to visit the projects that we support to see where your contribution goes and what difference it makes.
If you feel that you want more information about these projects or wish to contribute more, please don’t hesitate to ask us.
